I was swimming in the ocean today in San Clemente and the waves were quite large at times. I had to stay focused on them, so I spent less time swimming than I wanted to and was just wave bouncing. As I was walking out of the ocean, I noticed a large number of people on the beach in front of El Centro. As I wiped the salt water out of my eyes, I noticed that there were tons of kites in the air. I ran to my house to get my camera. I grabbed it, left the house, walked half way down there, turned on the camera to realize I had no battery left. I returned to the house, got my ipod and went back to the kites.
There were many mothers and kids with a few dads sprinkled in. I recognized many people from our town. I asked around to find out why this was going on, but in my broken comprehension of Spanish, I was not able to grasp the entire concept.
It was not religious.
It was not part of the upcoming San Clemente days festival.
It was not school related.
It was not an event for tourists.
Oh well, I chalked it up to “it was a good time”
Here are some pics, enjoy.
Video of kites on the beach:
Figuring it out… 1 kite tail at a time (Thanks to Fred for the last 2 tag line themes!)
Awesome! So pretty, and so many people obviously having fun. Thanks!
wow, that is awesome. Rarely see one kite flying over the beach. Hmm, maybe Todo Casa got a big shipment in. 🙂
Great pix of the kites, and you are right, Ecuadorians don’t have to have a reason to have fun…..Thoroughly enjoyed seeing a picture of Jasmine….can’t recall, was she the good dog or was that Sadie? See you in November.
Nice! I like your stories. Charge your camera.
